NORTH ARLINGTON, N.J. -- National Night Out Against Crime will be celebrated with neighborhood block parties in North Arlington on Tuesday, Aug. 2

Chief John P. Hearn of the North Arlington Police Department is encouraging residents to have a block party and as an incentive, the first 10 blocks organized will receive a free BBQ package courtesy of the North Arlington Police Crime Prevention Unit and The Arlington Diner.

North Arlington Police Officers and elected officials will also visit residents' block parties with giveaways.

To organize a block party, stop by the North Arlington Police Department for an application and will seek approval to have the street closed to traffic from 5-9 p.m.

The 33rd Annual National Night Out Against Crime asks that neighbors go outside make a point to meet one another. People are also asked to leave a porch light on overnight as a sign of community spirit and unity against crime.

National Night Out Against Crime is an annual community-building campaign that promotes police-community partnerships and neighborhood camaraderie. Neighbors participate across thousands of communities from all 50 states, United States territories, Canadian cities, and military bases worldwide.
