Bergen County Sax Legend Headlines Fairview's 'Music Under The Stars"

FAIRVIEW, N.J. -- Veterans of the Jersey Shore music scene will remember the party band Friends -- and, particularly, saxophonist Jerry DeLisio, whose Nice Guys will play under the stars in Fairview on Sept. 21.

Jerry DeLisio & the Nice Guys headline the event sponsored by the Fairview Chamber of Commerce and the borough from 6 to 10 p.m. at Babe Ruth Field on Sedore Avenue.

Delisio, who also sings and plays flute, has performed with several Jersey bands the past half-century in tri-state area clubs that included the Stone Pony, the Osprey, the Chatterbox and -- for those old enough to remember -- the Soap Factory in Palisades Park.

The Cliffside Park native began playing the tenor sax at 10, influenced first by Sam Butera of the Louis Prima Orchestra and, later, King Curtis, John Coltrane, Charlie Parker and Clarence "Big Man" Clemons.

Eventually, Friends opened for Steppenwolf and Gary U.S. Bonds, among others.

Hamburgers, hot dogs, water and soda will be sold at Fairview's "Music Under the Stars" event.

Bring chairs or blankets. Admission is free.
