Each tag represented a child's gender and age group ranging from 1 to 15 years old. The hope was that people would come by, pluck a tag, and return to NAVES with a gift for child (SEE: Bring A Smile To A Child's Face With North Arlington's Giving Tree).
Every tag had been taken off the tree as of Monday morning and approximately 60 presents that were donated presents will be distributed by NAVES this week to needy families in the community.
"We would like to thank those who took the time out to take a tag and return a gift," said NAVES Captain George McDermott, who created the Giving Tree in hopes that it would jumpstart gift giving.
"The children will appreciate it."
NAVES will pool their gifts with toys collected from the North Arlington Police Department toy drive and provide them to needy families.
McDermott has already said he plans to do the Giving Tree next year.
