"With the weather we've been having, we've been moving along pretty quickly," said Commissioner Matthew T. Ruzzo, former DPW superintendent.
The first project includes repairs to the sidewalks and curbs, the addition of handicap accessible ramps, new catch basins and the paving of:
- Sanford Avenue
- Tenth Street
- Wilson Avenue
- Chase Avenue
- Thomas Avenue
"I asked residents to be patient because we need to let the trenching sediment settle," Ruzzo said. "When it's done, the neighborhood will look nice. We're going to plant trees."
Water mains, water service lines and hydrants will be replaced on:
- Warren Street;
- New York Avenue;
- Newark Avenue.
The bid for that project will likely be awarded at the Aug. 9 commissioner's meeting, Ruzzo said. Officials hope the work is done before winter.
Those streets are being targeted first because they have no water lines, he added. They will be paved next spring or summer.
“Our efforts are for long-lasting results, rather than just simply putting on a two-inch overlay, these improvements should last 25 years or more," Ruzzo said.
Smith-Sondy Construction is completing the paving.
