WALLINGTON, N.J. -- Polish President Andrzej Duda visits Wallington on Wednesday for what's expected to be great pomp and circumstance -- and serious traffic tie-ups.

A 6 p.m. ceremony will be held at the General Pulaski monument at Main Avenue and May Street ( more info below ).

Born in Kraków in the former Polish People's Republic, Duda, 45, studied became his country's president in August 2015, taking his oath before the United Nations General Assembly.

At 51.5%, Wallington (pop. 11,700) has one of the highest per capita levels of Polish ancestry in the area.

The borough was ranked seventh in the nation (and first in New Jersey) by percentage of population with Polish ancestry in the 2000 Census.

Traffic restrictions for Duda's visit will run from 3 to 10 p.m. Wednesday.

They will include:

  • Main Avenue: CLOSED from Midland Ave to Wallington Avenue;
  • Locust Avenue: CLOSED from Wallington Avenue to Main Avenue.

The majority of the borough will be accessible only from the south side; Paterson Avenue and Route 21 approaches are advised.

Access to Park Row will also be limited. Use Mount Pleasant Avenue to enter/exit town.

Public viewing areas will be available for the Pulaski monument ceremony.

Backpacks, chairs, beverages and metal objects are prohibited.

Parking will be severely limited. It's best to walk, officials said.

Entry points for the viewing areas will be from May Street and Alden Street.
