Born in Passaic, Popeck grew up in Elmwood Park and Garfield. As a young man, he was a semi-pro bowler. He was self-employed at BG News in Lyndhurst.
"Family was very important to him," information from the funeral home noted. "He was an avid sports enthusiast, he loved working on crossword and jigsaw puzzles, and traveling with Ginny and his friends."
Popeck is survived by his wife, Virginia "Ginny" Popeck; sons Charles and his wife Diane, and Thomas and his wife Lara; grandchildren Cole and Alana; and sister Eleanor Popeck Rigolosi.
He was predeceased by his parents, Charles and Mary (Surdyka) Popeck.
Visitation will be held from 9-9:30 a.m. on Friday, Dec. 30, at Warner-Wozniak Funeral Service, 80 Midland Ave., in Wallington, followed by a 10 a.m. funeral mass at the Most Sacred Heart of Jesus Church, 127 Paterson Ave., in Wallington. Internment will be in St. Michael's Cemetery, in South Hackensack.
