Police responding to the 10:10 a.m. call at 120 Chubb Avenue found a co-worker doing CPR on the victim, a Camden resident, on the third floor, Police Chief James O'Connor told Daily Voice.
They took over CPR and began using a defibrillator, then were joined moments later by borough EMS and paramedics from MONOC ambulance service, the chief said.
The EMS unit took the victim to Meadowlands Hospital in Secaucus with paramedics on board.
He arrived there "alert and conscious and breathing on his own and speaking with medical personnel," O'Connor said.
The chief praised the quick efforts of the victim's co-worker and all of the responders.
"He was given a second chance at life," O'Connor said. "It is not often that a person is shocked 5 times and recovers."
