LYNDHURST, N.J. -- A Lyndhurst police officer who stopped a van for an expired inspection sticker learned that it wasn't registered either -- and that its two occupants were carrying heroin and cocaine, authorities told Daily Voice.
Officer Nicholas Abruscato stopped the van on Kingsland near Willow avenues just after noon Oct. 12, Capt. John Valente said.
The driver, 44-year-old Charles Huebner of Rutherford, was charged with possession of heroin, cocaine, a single methadone pill and a crack pipe.
Passenger Dominic Damiani, 37, of Lyndhurst was charged with the same, except for the methadone. A separate charge was brought for a hypodermic needle that Valente said he was carrying.
Abruscato also issued Hueber summosnes for failing to inspect his vehicle, having an expired registration and having drugs in the car.
Both men was being held on $10,000 bail each in the Bergen County Jail.
