The caller followed the pair to Briarcliff Avenue Park after calling police just after 3 a.m. Sunday, Police Chief David Pegg told Daily Voice.

Officers Peter Donatello and Brian Rubio found Kamal Lawson, 28, of Hackensack, and Algernon Collins, 25, of Teaneck carrying wallets, jewelry, mail, money and other items snatched from the vehicles, Pegg said.

Lawson admitted to 10 to 15 vehicle burglaries with Collins in the northwest section of town, the chief said. Collins "denied everything," he said.

A judge ordered both held on $85,000 each in the Bergen County Jail on 17 counts of burglary each.

"Even as of today, residents were calling to report stolen item from their vehicles, so additional charges will be filed," Pegg said Monday morning.
