Clifton PD: Saddle Brook Burglar Stole $15G Chalice, Cash From Church

CLIFTON, N.J. -- A Saddle Brook man with an extensive rap sheet stole a $15,000 chalice and donation box cash from a Clifton church, authorities said Friday.

Based on information from their colleagues in Hawthorne, Haldeon and Saddle Brook, Clifton police charged Peter M. Heitmann Jr. , 26, with burglarizing St. Paul's Church last week, Detective Lt. Robert Bracken said.

They also charged him with criminal mischief and possession of burglary tools.

Heitmann already was being held in the Passaic Coiunty Jail on burglary charges from another jurisdictdion.

A second burglary last week at St Brendan's Church was still under investigation
