Convicted Robber Fires Shot During Paterson Holdup, Authorities Charge

PATERSON, N.J. – An ex-con robbed two victims with hours of one another, firing at shot at one of them, said Passaic County authorities who teamed up to arrest him.

Timothy Simmons, 29, who spent two years in prison after a 2013 robbery spree, first pulled a gun on a 44-year-old city woman just after 7 a.m. Monday on East 22nd Street, authorities said.

Less than three hours later, they said, he robbed a 27-year-old city man on Crosby Street – firing a handgun as he fled but missing the victim, Passaic County Prosecutor Camelia M. Valdes said.

Simmons was due in court Friday after a joint investigation by city police and the Passaic Conty Sheriff’s Office led to his arrest a day earlier, Valdes said in a joint release with Acting Paterson Police Chief Troy Oswald and Passaic County Sheriff Richard H. Berdnik.

He’s charged with attempted murder, robbery and various weapons counts, including being a convicted felon in possession of a handgun.

Simmons remained held in the county lockup.
