YOU READ IT HERE FIRST: A Lyndhurst police officer responding to a call of a stiffed taxi fare grabbed the passenger as he ran from the stop, authorities said.
Matthew Selwood, 23, of Lyndhurst hailed the cab at Union Square in Manhattan, then bolted on Chubb Avenue around 10 p.m. Monday after being told of the $79.75 fare, the 31-year-old taxi driver told police.
Officer Charles Giangeruso was headed to the call when he saw Selwood running across a lawn and stopped him, Capt. John Valente said this afternoon.
Sellwood was released on a summons and given a May 12 court date to answer a theft of services charge.
