The heroes received awards from Public Safety Commissioner John Montillo, Jr. on Tuesday at the Board of Commissioners meeting.

"It's something that could have been very tragic," Detective Vincent Auteri said. "Through their efforts, tragedy was certainly avoided."

First, Dean alerted his mom, Lori Woolis. She jumped into the pool along with Mary Battaglia to save the boy, police said.

Once out of the pool, Taryn Paglio, a registered nurse, performed CPR while firefighter Nick Romito held the boy on his side, authorities said.
