Officers dispatched to a Brookchester Apartments garage around 6 p.m. found an unresponsive 20-year-old Dumont woman slumped over in a chair, Detective Lt. Frank Ramaci said this afternoon.

After Sgt. Daniel LaMorges spoke to someone who was with her, Officer Justin Pisano administered the medicine using a Narcan kit distributed to police by the Bergen County Prosecutor’s Office just weeks ago.

“The victim almost immediately regained consciousness,” he said.

She was taken to Holy Name Hospital by emergency services personnel.

Police confiscated drug paraphernalia, Ramaci said, adding that no charges were brought under the Overdose Prevention Act of 2013.

New Milford Detective Sgt. Brian Long and Officer Derek Mattessich have been training their department colleagues in the use of the kits.

Oakland police used it to save an overdosing addict hours after receiving theirs. Other saves have been reported by police in Lyndhurst, Mahwah, Moonachie and Woodcliff Lake.
