Eric Pleger was taken into custody and questioned after police conducting a welfare check following a call from management found him in the Riverview Gardens apartment compex with the body of 46-year-old wife, Luisa (Olavarria) Pleger, at 12:15 p.m. Acting Bergen County Prosecutor Gurbir S. Grewal said.

She had been struck with an object, a law enforcement source told Daily Voice."The cause of death is pending final determination by the Bergen County Medical Examiner’s Office once an autopsy is completed.," the prosecutor said. "This was a domestic violence incident."

Borough police got the call at 12:15 p.m. and immediately contacted the prosecutor's Major Crimes Unit after arriving at 28-K Garden Terrace, Grewal said.

Pleger was being held in the Bergen County Jail -- charged with murder and illegal weapons possession-- as the investigation continued.
