“The Township of North Bergen takes this matter very seriously and has been conducting an intensive investigation since certain issues were brought to our attention last week,” township spokesman Philip Swibinski said Thursday.
“The investigation is continuing. When it is completed, appropriate action will be taken,” he said, without elaborating.
Peter Giunchini resigned from his $130,000 position as the Director of Automotive Services and Transportation yesterday, after allegations were published on CLIFFVIEWPILOT.COM that he had cyber sex and exchanged naked photos with his 55-year-old secretary.
Giunchini, who was one of the highest paid officials in the township, also is a chief with the North Hudson Fire Rescue squad.
His secretary, Denise Mohr, told CLIFFVIEW PILOT in an exclusive interview that she always used her personal laptop and cellphone, while her boss at times communicated using a township computer.
She said she, like Giunchini, is also being forced to resign.
Giunchini, the director of automotive services in North Bergen’s Public Safety Department, was called in after the emails were discovered, a township source close to the investigation told the web site. Township officials seized both Mohr’s and Giunchini’s work computers Monday, the source said.
A receptionist at the Public Safety Office said Wednesday that Giunchini, a married father of three, was on paid medical leave.
