ALLENDALE, N.J. — Moderation isn't something that many people take into account on Thanksgiving, but an Allendale gym owner says it's sensible to keep everything in check even on the big day.

Pete Ohnegian of Good Energy Training says having a mental game plan following Thanksgiving Day is key to getting back on track.

"Balance, preparation and will power are key to not overdoing Thanksgiving and then putting yourself on a bad course as you head into the Hanukkah, Christmas & New Year's seasons," he said.

Then comes the exercise. A leisurely walk in the neighborhood is a great way to walk off some of the extra food to get caught up with loved ones while elevating your heart rate.

Planning a "cheat day" around the holidays can also help eliminate stress going into them, the trainer said.

"You don't need to be excessive with eating, but you can make a plan that you will be on point with your meals."

"Good Energy Training is part of people's life routine," Ohnegian added. "The run on Thanksgiving fits into our thought process of balance and working hard for food and drinks.

"After all, you have to be festive on Thanksgiving — there is so much to be thankful for," he said. "Life is good."
