LYNDHURST, N.J. — A pink hair accessory in a Lyndhurst salon is what inspired one tween to raise breast cancer awareness.

The 11-year-old wanted the accessory, but her mother didn't want it to be just a fashion statement, Dolce Hair Design owner Nicole Scott explained.

"She wanted her to understand the meaning for getting it," said Scott, whose salon has been attaching them for $10 each since Oct. 1.

In alignment with Dolce's breast cancer awareness mission, the youngster will be baking cupcakes and selling them at Sunday fundraiser.
