More than 15,000 voters have registered since August, Bergen County Elections Supt. Patricia Dicostanzo said: "And that's huge. It shows they're interested."

“Registration had been coming in very slow for the presidential election, and then this week it went crazy," Superintendent of Elections for Passaic County Sherine El-Abd added.

"We are getting them from all over the place."

New Jersey residents are eligible to register if:

  • You are a citizen of the United States.
  • You are a Bergen County resident 30 days before the election.
  • You will be 18 years of age on or before the next election.
  • You are not incarcerated, on parole, or on probation due to a conviction for an indictable offense under any federal or state laws.

Daily Voice took the pulse of Bergen and Passaic county residents on this year's high-profile election, here's what some of them had to say (SEE PHOTO CAPTIONS FOR MORE).

Brothers Dom Leuci, 21, and Leonardi Leuci, 18, of Wood-Ridge, will be voting in their first presidential election.

"I am looking forward to voting because this country needs a change,"  the elder Leuci said. "I'm hoping my vote will help to put the person on office who will make that change."

"I feel it is important to vote, because I am living in this country and I want someone who (for the most part) supports my views to be making decisions for the betterment of this country," Leonardo added.

"I don't necessarily care for either candidate, but I still need to support the side that I agree with more."

Local officials had their say, too.

"If you are helping an organization to collect registrations, and say your target is 200 registrations, but you have only gotten 25 so far, don’t wait until you’ve gotten your target at the last minute," El-Abd urged.

"Please bring them to us as soon as you get them."

Patricia Dicostanzo of Bergen County reminds people that it’s not just a presidential election, it's voting for Sheriff, county clerk, and freeholders.

She added: “Please go out and vote.”
