It's part of the #PinkPatchProject, a collaborative effort among the Los Angeles County Police Chiefs' Association and other law enforcement agencies nationwide during what is annually Breast Cancer Awareness Month.

"I saw the program on Instagram and saw how it was spreading across California," Lyndhurst Sgt. Richard Pizzuti said. "I thought we could and should get involved.

"My hope is that it spreads throughout the county and state."

Pizzuti designed patches and t-shirts, which will sell for $10 and $15, respectively, at sporting events and town functions.

Funds go directly to the research, treatment and education needed to help find a cure, according to the Pink Patch Project.

One to 8 women will be diagnosed with breast cancer in their lifetime, the organization says.

Lyndhurst Chief James O'Connor and Commissioner John Montillo, Jr. united to buy the patches, Pizzuti said.

PBA Local 202 donated money for the t-shirts and bought hats for the officers, the sergeant added. O'Connor and Montillo also bought pink badges.

To buy a patch and/or shirt, contact Pizzuti at (201) 939-2900, x2613 or rpizzuti@lyndhurstpolice.com.
