Mary Andrews, 98, Of Lyndhurst

LYNDHURST, N.J. — Mary Andrews, of Lyndhurst, died Nov. 6. She was 98.

She was born Nov. 23, 1917, in Torrington, Conn., the only daughter of John and Katherine Karisni. Her parents came to America in the early 1900s from Slovakia. She grew up in Passaic, where she attended public schools. She was a commercial studies major at Passaic High, graduating in 1936.

At first, she worked in New York at Ronald Press, then in the payroll department at Paramount Pictures in the 1940s. At Paramount, she met many movie stars and became a member of Paramount's choral group, which performed in many public places around Manhattan. During this time, she also was a soloist at the Holy Name Slovak Catholic Church in Passaic. She worked as a clerk-typist in the purchasing department for 24 years until her retirement in 1986.

She is survived by her three remaining children, John and his wife Gina Andrews, Bill Andrews and Mary and her husband Fred Goudey; and three grandchildren, Brandywine, Justin and Jessie.

There will be a funeral service at 9 a.m. Friday at the Ippolito-Stellato Funeral Home, 425 Ridge Road, Lyndhurst followed by a funeral Mass at 10 a.m. at Sacred Heart R.C. Church, 324 Ridge Road, Lyndhurst. Entombment to follow at Holy Cross Chapel Mausoleum. Visitation will be from 2-4 and 6-8 p.m.  Thursday at the funeral home.
