Little Ferry Board of Education doesn’t renew Scarafile pact

ANOTHER CVP SCOOP: Little Ferry’s Board of Education last night voted against renewing the contract of Schools Superintendent Frank Scarafile, following a months-long battle with dozens of parents and district employees.

Early rumors are that he could be replaced by a former Ridgefield Park superintendent.

The vote was split 3-3. Scarafile needed five votes of approval.

This comes as Little Ferry continues to try and rebuild from the devastation of Hurricane Sandy, which closed schools and forced some children to attend classes in Lyndhurst.

Estimates are that a search for a new superintendent could cost from $5,000 to $8,000 — money that some residents said could be better spent on infrastructure and supplies.

Scarafile, who’s been the district superintendent for 10 years, originally told the board last summer that he didn’t want to return after his contract expires on June 30.

He changed his mind, though, after considering the effect a non-renewal vote from the board would have on his prospects for getting another job.
