Units were on the lookout Monday night for the Honda Odyssey driven by Silverio Hernandez after a motorist called from southbound Route 21, just shy of Route 3, about an erratic driver, Detective Vincent Auteri told Daily Voice.

Moments later, police got a call from a woman who said she was stopped at a light on Rutherford Avenue when the Odyssey turned into Lyndhurst from Ridge Road and hit her car head-on.

She said the driver backed up, then continued east on Rutherford Avenue onto Summit Avenue.

A passenger in her car sustained minor injuries, Auteri said.

Hernandez continued onto Lake Drive, where the minivan hit a parked car.

"Someone called that in, too," Auteri said.

Hernandez refused a breath test and was taken to Hackensack University Medical Center because of his intoxicated condition, the detective said.

Officer Steven Passaman charged him with assault by auto and leaving the scene of a crash. Hernandez also received summonses for DWI and refusing to submit to the test.
