YOU READ IT HERE FIRST: A rookie North Arlington police officer was undergoing surgery at University Hospital in Newark this morning after being seriously injured in a crash while headed to a medical call last night.
The 32-year-old officer, hired in July, sustained a broken hip and ribs and internal injuries, authorities said.
His car slammed into a utility pole on the driver’s side door while headed south on Schuyler Avenue around 10 o’clock last night, North Arlington Police Chief Louis Ghione told CLIFFVIEW PILOT .
Investigators from Ghione’s fatal crash team and the Bergen County Prosecutor’s Fatal Accident Unit were investigating.
“We believe the car hit either a puddle or patch of oil,” the chief said.
