NORTH ARLINGTON, N.J. -- More than 90 students at North Arlington High School recently gathered in the auditorium for the annual awards and scholarship night.

Principal Steven Yurchak said students were awarded $4,770,659 in scholarships over projected four-year college careers.

The North Arlington Republican Club presented scholarships to five graduating seniors. Other local and community scholarships totaled $31,195.

The North Arlington mayor and council also awarded scholarships, including one to Tiziana Cristiano, who received a total of five scholarships, including a full scholarship to the Culinary Institute of America.

“It is heartwarming to see the community rally around such a talented group of graduating seniors. An evening like this would not be possible without our hardworking students and all of the people who have helped mold them into the bright young adults that they are today,” Yurchak said.

North Arlington High School teachers Ellen Bratowicz and Patricia Tomko coordinated the event. Supervisor of guidance Alyce Cusano worked with Bratowicz and Tomko to ensure everything went smoothly.

Superintendent Oliver Stringham is retiring after 36 years in education in North Arlington, with the last 14 as superintendent.

“As always, it’s a phenomenal experience to celebrate our students’ success, and the North Arlington community continues to be very generous in our scholarship program. We can’t be any prouder. All out staff, administration, students and the parents have all done an outstanding job,” Stringham said.
